If we want to understand the ancient India year then we should definitely read Godan. The story hero Hori works hard throughout his life, suffering many kinds of suffering, only because his dignity can be protected. He also tries to keep others happy, yet he does not save his dignity. This is not just the story of Hori, but the autobiography of most of the Indian farmers of that period. Hori's anguish fills deep feelings in the minds of the readers.
